Poppy Szkiler, CEO of Quiet Mark celebrates Women in Trade Day (Worldwide) with her decibel metre.

WITD: Briefly tell us about your tool, how important it is. Why and when you use it?

Poppy: My tool is the decibel metre, it enables our company Quiet Mark, along with much state of the art acoustic sound quality measurement and analysis equipment, to uniquely capture in-house the sound levels of technology products in over 90 product categories, our technical team at Quiet Mark over the past 10 years have captured in-house the world's first databases of the sounds of millions of products to determine which ones are the very quietest within the lowest 10% to 30% on the market each year to make sure consumers and trade-buyers have a free resource to make it easier find the quietest, best sound improving products and materials supportive products for their health and wellbeing.

As a result of the Covid-Lockdowns everyone around the world is spending more time living and working at home. The search for quieter technology has now become a priority. Excess noise can increase stress levels, disturb sleep, reduce productivity, impede health recovery and impair human relations. By choosing quieter technology and effective acoustic solutions, a serene backdrop can be created to rebalance well-being at home, work and in every living space. When consumers and trade buyers see the distinctive Quiet Mark logo on a product, they trust that it has been thoroughly tested and certified as one of the quietest available on the market.

WITD: Briefly tell us why Women in Trade Day (Worldwide) on June 15th, 2022, is important to you?

Poppy: In a turbulent world I believe the purpose of business is to solve problems for people and the planet, to help to encourage people to grow into the best versions of themselves in the midst of that journey. If we're going to succeed in tackling the problems faced by society today, we need to engage with ideas from every area of society. Inclusion, diversity and representation are so important and that's why I personally connect with Women in Trade Day, which Women in Trade magazine founder, Janet Kirlew developed after struggling to find a woman to do some skilled repair jobs around her home. Quiet Mark is delighted to be a supporting partner of this special event, which will hopefully inspire the next generation of women in trade to pick up their unique tools and make that difference.

WITD: How will you be celebrating the day?

Poppy: There are some incredible women who have shared their inspirational stories on your platform. So in the lead up,and on the day itself, Quiet Mark will share some of these with our social media following, to no doubt be inspired by them as I have.

WITD: How are you inspiring other women?

Poppy: My mother Gloria and I started Quiet Mark at the kitchen table together 10 years ago in 2012 with no business training. We are celebrating that milestone this year, we simply started picking up the phone with a simple strategy, we knew noise pollution was a massive issue and needed a next generation solution.  We have always gone for big expressive projects to bring to life the effect of noise as the invisible pollutant it is, like the Quiet Treehouse at 2014's Ideal Home Show, or Executive Production of feature length documentaries like 2016's critically acclaimed 'In Pursuit of Silence', or through retail partnership with leading retailers including Argos, Currys, John Lewis and Very, making it easier for millions of customers to find the quietest products for increase acoustic comfort in our homes and workspaces.
